Dear Lynn:
I have just spent a few minutes happily browing your excellent genealogy
site as I am researching the BALLAGH family. My mom's mother was a Ballagh.
I have info to share on the man you show as "J.D. Ballagh." He is actually
Isaac Dorman Ballagh, and his wife is Susan Carson. They lived in Clarke
Township, Durham County, near the shores of Lake Ontario in Ontario, Canada.
Thanks to your clue about Nevada, I did a bit of research and found that
W.T. Ballagh became a wealthy pharmacist in Nevada, Missouri, and his name
was Wilfred Thomas. Another contact said he was called Billy by his
friends.
Coloured images of his house and drug store appear on Lyndon Irwin's Vernon
County webpage. (Oh, shoot! I didn't write down the darn URL...well, I can
go backwards and get it later if you want it.) He told me that Beulah
(W.T.'s wife) was injured in what became known as the World's Fair train
wreck outside St. Louis in 1904. She and her folks were on the train, and
W.T had to go up to Warrensburg to collect them all.
I also found someone who had a copy of the Deepwood Cemetery transcription
and she gave me what appears on the BALLAGH stone:
W.T. (Wilfred Thomas) BALLAGH [no dates on stone]
Beulah MASON [no dates on stone]
Ida 1871 - 1906
(Father) I.D. 1835 - 1885
(Mother) Susan 1840 - 1904
This same contact said her mother, age 92, vividly remembers the Ballaghs as
they were the next-door neighbours of her grandparents. Now here's the odd
thing: she says Celeste and her sister were children of W.T BALLAGH, not
S.C. ROBERTS. Oh dear. Are you 100% sure of your info. I'm not disputing
it as I have no way to prove either one of you right (or wrong). I'm just
aiming for 100% accuracy....if such a beastie is possible in genealoy.
>(;^)
I have tons of info on Isaac's ancestry and on Susan's ancestry.
Hope to hear back from you soon, and thanks for your site!
Sincerely yours,
Barbara Hopper
